When does renewing your business funding make sense?
Paying down your current funding can open the door to more. Here's how to tell when a renewal helps and when it doesn't.
Once you've paid down part of your current funding, you may be offered a renewal: new funding that pays off what's left and puts additional cash in your account.
When a renewal can make sense
- Your sales have grown and you have a real use for more capital
- You've paid down a good share of your current balance
- The new payment fits comfortably in your cash flow
When to be careful
- You'd mostly be paying off the old balance and receiving little new cash
- Your sales have dropped since you last funded
- You're renewing out of habit, not because you need the money
Always ask for two numbers: how much new cash actually lands in your account after the payoff, and the new total payback.
The bottom line
A renewal should move your business forward, not just keep you in a cycle. If the math doesn't work, it's fine to finish paying off what you have first.
